On April 20, the Brennan Center updated its State Supreme Court Diversity report. The update notes that New York ranks higher than many other states in both ethnic and gender diversity on its high court. New York also has at least one former prosecutor on its high court, and no former public defenders.
On April 22, the New York Law Journal reported on the “call to continue the representation of the LGBTQI+ community on New York courts at all levels” after the passing of Judge Paul Feinman.
On April 23, Law360 reported on how attorney groups rated candidates to replace Judge Leslie Stein, who will retire on June 4.
On April 30, Donna Lieberman and Lourdes Rosado, in a piece published in the New York Law Journal, argued for a diverse list of candidates to the three upcoming vacancies on the Court—two created by the upcoming retirements of Judges Leslie Stein and Eugene Fahey and one created by the passing of Judge Paul Feinman.
