On January 12, 2022, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Justice Shirley Troutman to be a judge on the New York Court of Appeals. Justice Troutman was sworn in at Court of Appeals Hall later in the day.
Coverage of the confirmation came from around the twitterverse, as well as from the New York Law Journal, the Daily News, and Spectrum News 1–all of which reported widespread praise of the Governor’s selection mixed with criticism that the Court lacks judges with a criminal defense background. Similar concerns were highlighted at Justice Troutman’s Senate confirmation hearing, with coverage coming from the New York Law Journal, the Albany Times Union, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and the Buffalo News. Noah Rosenblum, from NYU Law School, also had interesting takeaways from the confirmation hearing. And Dan Clark had a chance to speak with Judge Troutman shortly after her confirmation.
