Who We Are

Posted on 2020-07-102025-02-12

This website is designed to provide comprehensive information about the civil cases heard by the New York Court of Appeals. The site is the product of our shared experience that no such space exists and that it should, because the Court’s decisions are significant and deserve more widespread attention. With everything on the site—from our descriptions of the cases and decisions, to the materials that we host—our aim is to inform, not to persuade. We have no agenda, other than to foster a better understanding of the Court and a more general appreciation of its important work. We hope that this website may contribute to that end in some minor way.

* * *

Philip Tisne, creator and editor. Phil is a Judge of the New York City Criminal Court. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Hon. Loretta A. Preska of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and as a law clerk to Hon. Reena Raggi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He worked for several years at a New York law firm; he then served as an Assistant Solicitor General for New York for nearly five years, and as an appeals assistant for the New York County District Attorney for about the same time. He has been described as “the litigator of the century,” albeit by his mother. He was born in Brooklyn.

Scott Eisman, editor. Scott is a partner in Axinn’s New York office, where he focuses on all manner of commercial litigation in both appellate and trial courts. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Hon. Louis L. Stanton of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and previously worked at a large international law firm. He served as an Assistant Solicitor General for New York from 2017 to 2020. When not practicing law and helping run TwentyEagle, Scott is busy, along with his wife, raising their two kids—and, when time permits, playing guitar.

Phil and Scott would like everyone to know that the material published on this website reflects the views of the authors only. Any views that Phil expresses on this website are his own, not that of his employer, which is not affiliated with TwentyEagle in any way. And nothing published on this website reflects the view of Axinn, which is also not affiliated with TwentyEagle in any way.
